Sony Ericsson has rolled out two new mobile phones in the Indian market. The biggest USP of the new phones is the unbelievable radio-experience they offer.

Dubbed R300 Radio and R306 Radio, users can easily tune-in to their favorite music shows or sports reports, across both AM and FM broadcasts on these devices. The choice is totally yours’, you can either keep the music to yourself by attaching the phones to stereo headphones or alternatively can ‘play it loud’ with the high performance speaker that is built-into the device. A 3D sound enhancement or volume boost that comes with the dedicated Audio Enhancer key on the phones only makes things better.

Whilst the R300 features an integrated VGA camera, R306 comes with a 1.3MP camera. The handsets also include Bluetooth. An optional Bluetooth Headset HBH-PV703 can be bought to accentuate the radio-listening experience further.

R306 Radio opens up into a clamshell with two built-in stereo speakers that face the listener.

Slated for a launch in Q2 of 2008, the Sony Ericsson mobile phones will be available in the price range of Rs 3,500-5,000.

The newly announced phones seem to be best suited for those consumers who do not want to go in for additional media players or get bored of the music stored in their phone’s memory. Moreover, the price surely also seems to be second most attractive factor in these devices.

NOKIA N97

The world's largest handset maker, Nokia, would introduce its smartphone N97 in Indian market by Diwali, in an attempt to cash in on people's buying sentiments in the festival season.

Nokia India Managing Director D Shivakumar, while launching two music devices and a new version of N97, said: "Though the music devices will be available in India by Q4 (2009-10), we plan to bring the N97 Mini by October in the Indian market."

Mr. Shivakumar, allying with the criticism about Nokia's poor performance in the high end phone segment, said that Nokia is doing better than expected in the smartphone segment, reporting adequate sales growth despite stiff completion across the segment.

Nokia N97 is equipped with all modern and user friendly features such as a 3.5 inch touch screen with 640x360 (16:9) resolution and haptic feedback, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 4× digital zoom, WiFi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, HSDPA, 32GB of built in flash memory, a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm headphone jack and many more.

The smartphone by Nokia, having about 40 per cent market share worldwide, is priced at about Rs 31,000.

Sony Ericsson W61S

The two handsets are the W61S (slider) and the W62S (flip). The W61S is loaded with a 5.1 megapixel autofocus camera and falls under the Cyber-shot umbrella. It’s equipped with a CMOS sensor and aside from 3x optical zoom it uses Sony’s ‘Exmor’ technology from the Pro Alpha DSLR. The camera boasts Kaokime Lite (auto-adjusts brightness on face detection for ideal facial tones), Smile Shutter Lite (auto-releases shutter on detecting smiles) and anti-shake abilities.

As if that weren't enough, the W61S has a large 2.8 inch WVGA display with a resolution of 400 x 800 pixels that apparently uses Reality MAX technology as in Sony’s Bravia HD TVs. WOW!! Aside from all that (as if all that’s not enough to make you want to fly to Japan), it has other usual features such as Bluetooth, GPS, TV-out and external memory support via microSD cards (Not M2?)

Sony Ericsson W62S

Next up is the W62S flip phone equipped with a 2.7 inch WQVGA display that sports a resolution of 240 x 432 pixels. There doesn’t seem to be too much information provided about this particular phone other than the display size and the fact that it will also support external memory up to 2GB via microSD cards, and that it will have a 2 megapixel camera.

Prices haven't been announced as yet, but the W61S will be out this April in Spectrum Pink, Shadow Black and Prism White, while the W62S should be out a bit earlier, in March, in Silver/Leather, Black/Rose and White/Lime.
